Year 1 & 2 – Learning About the Seasons in Mandarin
This term in Chinese class, our Year 1 and 2 students have been exploring the topic of Seasons in Mandarin Chinese. They learned how to say the names of the seasons, describe different types of weather, and talk about the months each season occurs here in Australia!
Some of the vocabulary we have been learning includes:
- Summer is hot — 夏天很热 (xià tiān hěn rè) ☀️Months of Summer: 十二月 (shí èr yuè), 一月 (yī yuè), 二月 (èr yuè)
- Autumn is cool — 秋天很凉快 (qiū tiān hěn liáng kuai) 🍂Months of Autumn: 三月 (sān yuè), 四月 (sì yuè), 五月 (wǔ yuè)
- Winter is cold — 冬天很冷 (dōng tiān hěn lěng) ❄️Months of Winter: 六月 (liù yuè), 七月 (qī yuè), 八月 (bā yuè)
- Spring is warm — 春天很暖和 (chūn tiān hěn nuǎn huo) 🌸Months of Spring: 九月 (jiǔ yuè), 十月 (shí yuè), 十一月 (shí yī yuè)
To showcase their learning, students created beautiful posters of each season and a colourful seasons wheel. They also learned and performed a Seasons Song in Mandarin Chinese.
