Year 7 Technology Mandatory
Year 7 Technology Mandatory students have been developing their practical food preparation skills by learning the techniques behind making dough. Throughout the unit, students prepared both scone dough, pizzas and delicious lemonade scones, gaining an understanding of measuring, mixing, kneading and safe food handling practices. They also had the opportunity to showcase their creativity by designing their own pizzas, with many students experimenting with impressive stuffed crust creations. It was fantastic to see students confidently applying their skills while producing a range of tasty and imaginative results.
Stage 5 Food Technology
Stage 5 Food Technology students have continued their exploration of Japanese cuisine by preparing yakitori chicken skewers. The name yakitori comes from two Japanese words: "yaki" (焼き) meaning grilled and "tori" (鳥) meaning chicken. As part of this practical lesson, students developed their grilling and basting techniques, learning how these cooking methods enhance flavour, create an appealing glaze and ensure even cooking. Students demonstrated excellent food preparation skills while gaining a deeper appreciation of the cultural significance and traditional cooking methods used in Japanese cuisine.
Stage 6 Hospitality
Stage 6 Hospitality students have been working exceptionally hard behind the scenes to prepare and serve a delicious selection of food for our Grand friends Day celebrations. The menu included homemade arancini, sausage rolls, pizza scrolls and a variety of sweet slices, with students demonstrating professional food preparation skills to cater for this special school event. Alongside this, Year 11 students have continued working towards completing their Prepare and Serve Sandwiches unit, further developing their practical skills and confidence in a commercial kitchen environment. Year 12 students have been expanding their repertoire by making indulgent s'mores brownies and learning the art of creating homemade marshmallows from scratch.
