Bookfair and Grandparents/friends day
Book fair combined with Grandparents Day is the most exciting day in the school calendar for our students. It was lovely again this year seeing so many grandparents and special friends joining their grandchildren in their classrooms before enjoying the book character parade and browsing the library for book purchases.
Thank you all for joining us, I hope you had a great experience at Boorowa Central School.
Showcase evening
Boorowa Central School is excited to announce its inaugural ‘Showcase evening’!! This event will be held on Wednesday 9 September in Boorowa Central School’s Hall and adjacent classrooms.
The Showcase evening is what the name indicates, an opportunity for the school community to view the efforts of their children throughout the year. The event will includes performances, student work displays, service by students and much much more.
Watch the school FaceBook page for more details as we draw closer to the event.
I look forward to seeing you all there on the night to celebrate our student’s efforts and successes.
Resolution Room Update
The newly established Resolution Room at Boorowa Central School is having the desired impact on teaching and learning. The number of negative behaviour entries per day has dropped to one third of the daily average compared to term 2. This means that classrooms are more settled, less disrupted, and focused more on learning.
A small number of students have been ‘airported’ to the Resolution room this term. Most have followed instructions, resolved their poor choices and rejoined their class after 1 day. Others, however, chose not to follow the instructions given to them by either the faculty leader or a senior executive, resulting in an immediate suspension. This will continue to occur until the student learns to follow instructions. Following instructions, whether you agree with them or not, is an essential skill to learn for successful employment in the future after school. At Boorowa Central School, we will continue to expect this.
When I look at the individual behaviour data, it is evident that ¾ of students at Boorowa Central School have consistently made positive choices and have not received a negative behaviour entry in Compass this term. Well done to these students.
Whilst the negative behaviour data is still higher than I would like, the data shows a significant improvement when compared to Term 2. This is very pleasing. I commend all the students for their positive learning attitudes this term and encourage them to consistently apply this approach all term.
Parking Update
As you are now all aware, the new parking lines and signs have been installed on Pudman Street adjacent to Boorowa Central School. Most parking is now nose-in angle parking except for 5 parallel spaces at the front of the school. These 5 spaces are designated as a school drop off zone and are limited to 5 minutes during the key drop-off and pick-up times of 8-9.30am and 2.30-4pm.
The angle parking spaces west of the crossing and nearest to Boorowa Public Preschool are also timed parking spaces. However, these are signed as ¼ hour parking which is 15 min parking between the hours of 8-9.30am and 2.30-4pm.
All other designated space are ‘all day parking’.
Please be aware of these parking arrangements to ensure we can keep our children safe during these busy periods and ensure parents avoid accidently receiving a parking fine.
Preschool Update
In week 1 of this term, I joined members from the Department of Education’s infrastructure team as well as staff from Early Learning to take a tour of the new Boorowa Public Preschool. The objective of the tour was to identify any issues with the build, big or small, that need to be rectified before the preschool opens. The staff that joined me were very thorough with their inspection of the building and play area leading to a list of minor improvements required. Once these improvements have been rectified, I will be invited to a walk through / handover meeting. With all going well, this will be when I receive the keys to Boorowa Public Preschool and we can furnish the space. From here we will have 1-2 weeks before we are assessed for service approval. Once we receive service approval, we can accept enrolments and begin our preschooling at Boorowa Central School.
Watch this space for more details to come.
