Beginning Term 3 : 

College Captains 

Settling back into the groove here at South Oakleigh after what he hope was a restful two-week break, we would like to take the time to reflect on the first few weeks of semester two here at the college. 

On Wednesday 15 July, South Oakleigh hosted its inaugural Students In International Relations Conference. We welcomed former and current figures of global affairs to the campus to discuss with students what their lives are like and potential pathways into their field.

Attendees included the Ambassadors to Australia of The Netherlands, Estonia and Latvia, the Consulate-General of Chile and the former Australian Ambassador to the United Nations. We are privileged to have been able to host such an interesting group of people are incredibly grateful for the time they gave to our school. Credit for organisation of the event goes largely to Year 12 student Jack Wright who is a passionate member of UN Youth Australia. Thank you, Jack! 

Opening on 27 August is the annual school production. This year, the college is taking a stroll down the yellow brick road into the wonderful world of Oz! The cast, crew and production staff have been hard at work all year to bring our community another incredible performance. Tickets are selling out fast, so make sure to secure yours before its too late. More details and links to ticket purchasing are on Compass. We hope to see you there, and look out for incoming tornadoes! 

A reminder to all students, but especially those currently undertaking a Unit 4 subject, to maintain your study habits. It’s the final stretch for our Year 12 students now, so remember to stay committed, stay focused and stay passionate. Throughout this term, there will be support all around you. Your teachers and coordinators are committed to ensuring each and every one of their students sees success. So if at any point you need help, please reach out.

College Vice Captains

Sorry for the delay on the Vice Captain report, we were a bit busy but here it is:

Semester 2 is here and the Vice School Captains are ready!

The Formal Committee has planned a final fundraiser and organised all the fine print, and now all our hard work will pay off with our Year 11 Formal at the end of the term. A big thank you to the staff and students who have worked alongside each other (Ms. Kosztyi, Ms. Ferguson, Ms. Lucas, Ms. Ludbrook, and all the Formal Committee), we cannot wait for our big day.

Following Formal, we are keen to see the new faces of our school's leadership team as people run as candidates during the South Oakleigh College Leadership Elections! 'We wish everyone the best of luck, and thank you to the SRC team for helping to make it happen

In a couple of weeks, the Performing Arts teams at school will have the annual school production - The Wizard of Oz - Youth Edition, and the Spring Concert near the end of the term. We wish all performers the best for their shows!

Outside of school, we have more leadership forums coming up, which we're excited to take part in as we learn and grow into the best leaders, we can be for the school

After a successful Term 2 it is now time to look ahead to the upcoming events our Student Representative Council will be hosting in Term 3. 

In the upcoming weeks, the SRC is excited to host its largest event of the year, Wellfest Week! Throughout this week, students will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities designed to promote wellbeing, school connectedness and student engagement.

 These events include our annual MasterChef Competition, Krispy Kreme and Out of Uniform day, Active Friday, a Celebratory Breakfast Club and lunchtime concert, and our popular Tag a Friend initiative.

The planned schedule for Wellfest Week is as follows:

Monday (Aug 17)- Tag a Friend

Tuesday (Aug 18)- Krispy Kreme Fundraiser + Out of Uniform day

Wednesday (Aug 19)- Celebratory Breakfast Club + lunchtime concert

Thursday (Aug 20)- MasterChef Competition

Friday (Aug 21)- Active Friday
