Beginning Term 3 :

Monash division AFL competition

After displaying strong efforts at the Monash division AFL competition, our senior schoolboys earned a well-deserved spot in the Eastern Metropolitan regional finals for the first time in South Oakleigh’s history.

We knew the standards would be much higher against the best school teams in the region and although the results of the games didn’t go our way, the boys never gave up and persisted until the final siren. There were plenty of moments of courage, pressure, and teamwork throughout the day.

We saw heaps of proud efforts displayed by our boys throughout the day, including some amazing goals from Ryan Mahajan, Aiden Van Oosten, and Andrew Macraeas as well as Campbell Brown and Luka Kulas dominating the ruck. It was a wonderful experience for the senior boys, and we are proud of them for making it that far.

Intermediate Interschool Basketball

We have had so many talented basketball players sign up for the interschool intermediate basketball day.

We had over 40 boys sign up, showing just how much enthusiasm there is for basketball across our school this year. Through weeks of dedicated training sessions, our coaches have had the challenging task of narrowing this down to just 2 teams to represent SOC on the day.

The standard of play throughout selections was outstanding, and every boy who tried out should be proud of the effort and commitment they showed.

A special shout out goes to SOC staff member Jamie Payet, who has been giving up his lunch times to train the boys to their full potential.

The Division Sport Day will be held on Monday 24th August, and we can't wait to see our two teams take to the court.

We'll be sure to share results and highlights from the day in our next newsletter, so stay tuned. Good luck to all our players — go SOC!
