Beginning Term 3 :

Mathematics

In Term 2, Miss Tate organised for some of our accelerated students in Year 9 to attend an excursion at CHES (Centre for Higher Education Studies). Students partook in a series of classes along with students from other schools that revolved around mathematical thinking, specifically real-world applications.

During the day, students were presented with a range of activities, with the aim of improving their critical thinking skills and their ability to use mathematical knowledge in real-world applications. Going deeper than fluency to really understand the Maths and prepare them for application SACs in VCE Methods and Specialist. It was a great day for everyone, feeling lucky to have received such an opportunity.Term 3 got off to an exciting start for our Year 7 students with our annual Pi Day celebrations!

Students worked together in their Houses, competing in a range of mathematical challenges, puzzles and games. The activities encouraged students to use their problem-solving skills, think creatively and work collaboratively, all while earning points for their House.

The day finished with our much-anticipated Pi Recital Competition, where students competed to see who could memorise and recite the most digits of π. We received fantastic feedback from students, who enjoyed the opportunity to experience Mathematics in a fun and different way. A particular highlight was our delicious pie lunch, generously provided by Mrs Koziaris, the perfect way to celebrate Pi Day!

A very big thank you also goes to Mr Fernandes for the enormous amount of work he put into organising the day and ensuring it was such an enjoyable and successful experience for our Year 7 students.
