SSV Senior Boys’ Soccer

On Thursday 23rd July, while all their classmates were enjoying a sleep-in due to the AEU Stop Work action, 16 boys from Year 11 and 12 hopped on a bus and headed to Evans Reserve in Norlane to compete in the SSV Senior Boys Soccer competition.

We played four games across the day. First up we played a strong North Geelong Secondary College team, then straight into a game against Belmont High School. The boys fought hard in both games, but unfortunately, we ended up with the same score line in both, a 2 – 0 loss.

Our third game was against Northern Bay College. Tensions were high, but we managed to come away with a 1-0 win, thanks to some great teamwork and a first half goal from Braydon Schlink.

Needless to say, the boys were pretty pumped for their final game against Western Heights College. We were evenly matched all game, but they managed to pip us at the end, winning 2-1, with Ben Houliston scoring Oberon’s goal. 

Overall, the boys had a great day out representing Oberon High School. A special thanks to Lachie O’Neil who ran the lines for us, as he was not able to play due to injury, and to ex-Oberon student and current Geelong NPL player Lucas Parkinson for taking on the tough job of coach.
