Monday Chapel

Monday Chapel provides a weekly opportunity for our community to pause, reflect, and begin the school week grounded in faith and shared purpose. Students are invited to gather for a short, meaningful liturgy centred on a particular theme that encourages reflection and connection.

While the Chapel is currently being prepared, services are temporarily held in Room 7. Year 7 and Year 8 students are encouraged to attend during lunchtime, where they join a prayer experience led by our Year 9 students. These students take responsibility for preparing the prayer, organising activities, and guiding their peers through a thoughtful weekly reflection.

The students in attendance have received a journal so they can record moments of gratitude and acts of kindness.   

As we celebrate the Feast Day of Mary Mackillop, the students have been charged with completing 20 acts of kindness during the week.

Holy Day of Obligation - Feast of the Assumption

On Friday, 14 August students will attend Mass at midday. 

On Saturday, 15 August the Church celebrates the Feast Day of the Assumption of Our Lady when, according to our faith, the Holy Mother, “having completed her course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory”. 

The Assumption signals the end of Mary’s earthly life and marks her return to heaven to be reunited with Jesus. While the bodies of both Jesus and Mary are now in heaven, there is a difference between the Assumption and the Resurrection. Where Jesus arose from the tomb and ascended into heaven by his own power, Mary’s body was taken up to heaven by the power of her Son.

Catechism 

This term,  some of our Year 9 students have stepped into an important ministry within our local community, taking on the responsibility of teaching catechism to students at Burraneer Bay Public School. As our Year 12 students commence their Trial HSC examinations and conclude their time as catechists, the year 9 students have begun teaching this week.

Passing on the Faith: Celebrating Our Student Catechists

Each Tuesday, while most students are heading to lunch, a remarkable group of St Aloysius College students travel to Burraneer Bay Public School to teach Catholic Scripture. This valued partnership between our College, Parish and local primary school continues to make a lasting impact on both our students and the children they teach.

As our Year 12 Catechists prepare for their Trial HSC examinations and the HSC, we would like to sincerely thank them for their outstanding service throughout the year. Week after week, they have generously volunteered their time, sharing the Gospel with enthusiasm, creativity and genuine care.

It has been a privilege to watch these young people grow into confident teachers. Throughout the year they have developed exceptional classroom management skills, built wonderful rapport with their students, and delivered engaging lessons using technology, interactive activities, questioning, prayer, song and creative learning experiences.

Their impact has certainly not gone unnoticed. Teachers at Burraneer Bay Public School have consistently praised the professionalism of our Catechists, with several commenting that they demonstrate a level of confidence beyond many university teaching practicum students. Perhaps the greatest compliment came from one Kindergarten student who simply said, "My favourite thing at school is Scripture on Tuesdays."

This kind of volunteer service is rare among high school students. Through their commitment, our Catechists have not only deepened their own faith but have inspired the next generation with joy, compassion and authentic witness.

This week also marked an exciting milestone as nine courageous Year 9 students taught their very first Scripture lessons while our Year 12 students begin their exam preparations. After observing lessons and completing a handover with the Year 12 Catechists, Maggie Foster, Imogen D'Apice, Lee Hawke, Rosemary Taylor, Oliver Brissett, Tara Nissirios, Ava Perchtold, Noah Wilson and Cleo Jovcevski stepped confidently into the classroom, receiving glowing feedback from the supervising teachers.

Together with our current Year 11 Catechists, these students will become the leaders of the Catechism program in 2027, mentoring the next generation of student Catechists.

We thank all of our Catechists for their generosity, commitment and outstanding service. They truly embody the Lasallian spirit of faith, service and community.
