H2GP

This term, our students will compete in the Hydrogen Powered Grand Prix (H2GP) on 18 August at the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium. In preparation for the event, they attended a sponsorship lunch and practice day at the Gippsland Tech School. The day provided students with the opportunity to thank our generous sponsors, including Aussie Broadband, for their ongoing support.

They also worked alongside students from other participating schools, testing their vehicles, sharing ideas and gaining valuable experience ahead of race day.

We are incredibly proud of the dedication and teamwork our students have shown and look forward to cheering them on as they represent our school at this year's competition.

Art

This term our lovely Art teacher Sally has had some time off, so while we patiently wait for her return all of the teachers have been chipping in. Our students have been working on integrating AI into their work and creating techonology based pieces of art, whilst other students have been continuing the work that begun during 2025 NAIDOC, with more mural pieces on the way! We will reveal these pieces of work at a later date.

Food Technology

This Term, the Bridging class has focused on improving measuring skills and developing an understanding of fractions through the use of measuring cups and spoons. Students have also explored a range of cooking techniques, including frying, boiling, and baking.

Throughout the term, they have enjoyed preparing a variety of delicious dishes, including macaroni cheese, cheesy taco pasta bake and chocolate brownie cookies.

The Middle group has been learning about the importance of nutrients and healthy eating. As part of their practical lessons, students have prepared a range of recipes, including bacon and cheese potato balls, Nando’s-style Portuguese chicken and rice, and chocolate chip cookies.

Our KYYP VET students began the term by preparing and serving three varieties of soup for staff members. They should be very proud of their efforts, with the event proving to be a great success. During Hospitality classes, the Certificate II VET students have also been preparing and serving espresso coffee for FLO staff. Developing barista skills is an important part of their training and provides valuable experience to support future employment opportunities in cafés and in the hospitality industry.

Physical Education

The cold weather and not having access to our P.E room hasn’t slowed our students down this term. Despite these barriers we are still finding plenty of ways to get active and have fun!

Our bridging program has started to participate in walks around our community to learn about the different options available to us and to practice the skills necessary for participating in our upcoming offsite excursions and events. I am looking forward to having our Bridging students get to experience some of the fun excursions and activities that our senior students have been enjoying.

Students in our middle programs have been participating in a variety of offsite programs. Some groups have begun utilising Fitniss4U gym (Morwell) to become familiar with the gym, exercise, and equipment and will continue to build confidence in the gym while building their individualized gym programs. We have previously taken small groups to the gym, and those students really enjoyed it, so it’s been great to open this opportunity to many more of our students.

Other groups are continuing with their program from last term and are participating in a huge variety of games and sports at the Morwell Leisure Centre. Some of the highlights have included the longest basketball shot from the stands, too many hilarious dodgeball moments and some of the highly competitive Basketball games.

Our VPC students have also been keeping active with the offsite activities. They too have been making use of the gym and Leisure Centre facilities. Some of our VPC students have been braving the cold to participate in nature walks at the Crinigan Road Reserve and going on some short bike rides to help get the bikes ready for everyone else once the weather gets a bit nicer.

While we are all looking forward to some nicer weather returning, it has been great to give our students the chance to get into the community and participate in activities we don’t always get the chance to during the term. Lot’s more fun to come throughout the rest of term.
