Grade 2

The term is off to a fantastic start! We enjoyed celebrating NAIDOC Week in our first week back, with students participating in meaningful activities that recognised and celebrated the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We are looking forward to all the exciting learning opportunities that Semester 2 has in store.
In English, students have been exploring procedural writing by creating clear, step-by-step instructions on a topic of their choice. They have been learning how to organise their ideas in the correct sequence and use important language features, such as verbs, time connectives and precise vocabulary, to help their readers successfully follow instructions.
In Mathematics, we have been building our understanding of place value by identifying, renaming and regrouping 3- and 4-digit numbers. Students have been using hands-on materials, including base ten blocks and place value charts, to deepen their understanding and confidently explain how numbers can be represented in different ways.
This term, our Integrated Studies unit is Discovery, with a focus on exploring light and sound. We have begun investigating a range of everyday objects and materials to discover whether they produce light, sound, or both. The students enthusiastically explored tubs filled with different objects, making observations and sharing their thinking. They also generated their own wonderings about light and sound, which will guide our investigations and learning throughout the term.
Keep an eye on some exciting events this term:
Week 3- Book Fair Favourite Character Dress up Monday 27th July (free)
Week 5- Excursion to Scienceworks (Monday 2EP, 2JC, 2KL and Wednesday 2EW, 2AW and 2RV)
Week 6- Book week celebrations
Thank you again for all your support.
Warm regards,
The Grade 2 Team
