Grade 1

All Grade 1 students have made a fantastic start to the term, settling back into classroom routines with growing independence and enthusiasm. It has been lovely hearing about the exciting adventures many students enjoyed over the holidays and even more special seeing their excitement as they reunited with friends.
Thank you to all families who attended our recent parent-teacher interviews. It was a pleasure to connect, discuss student progress and celebrate each child’s learning journey so far.
Mathematics
In Mathematics, we have begun exploring place value. Over the coming weeks, students will participate in tasks that develop their understanding of partitioning and renaming numbers, as well as addition and subtraction. Through hands-on activities using concrete materials, students will strengthen their mental maths skills and develop their ability to reason and solve problems in different ways.
At the end of last term, our Grade 1 students enjoyed a special buddy session with their Grade 6 buddies. Working together, they designed and created math games to take home and play with their families. It was wonderful to see the students sharing ideas, solving problems and learning alongside their buddies.
English
In Writing, we have begun learning about narratives. Students are developing their understanding of story structure, including characters, settings and plots and will begin creating their own imaginative stories.
In Reading, we are focusing on fiction texts. Students are practising five-finger retells to help them summarise what they have read. They are also continuing to make predictions and share their thoughts and responses with their peers.
Integrated Studies and Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships
This term, students will explore the five senses through a variety of engaging, hands-on learning experiences. We are also looking forward to our Week 4 excursion to the Museum of Play and Art (MoPA), where students will have the opportunity to extend their learning through play, creativity and exploration.
In Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships, students have been learning strategies to manage their emotions, remain calm and approach challenges with a positive mindset.
School Disco
Our school disco on 19 June was a wonderful way to finish last term! The students had a fantastic time dancing with their friends, enjoying the music and showing off some impressive dance moves. Thank you to everyone who helped organise and support such a fun and memorable event for our students.
We are so proud of the way our Grade 1 students have started Term 3 and look forward to another wonderful term filled with learning, growth and connection.
