Around the Primary Classrooms

Early Learning Centre (ELC)

A highlight of ELC Term 3 was most definitely preparing for and celebrating the College Arts Festival. The children were so proud to see their artwork displayed for their families to enjoy and bravely took to the stage in the hall to share their dance and song. It was wonderful to see their confidence, creativity and sense of achievement shine as they celebrated their learning with our families.

In the ELC space, we have also been exploring the wonderful world of ‘fairy potions’! Our potion making area quickly became a much loved space where children could mix, pour, experiment and observe as their creations fizzed and changed. With generous donations from families, including natural dyes such as cabbage water, flower petals and orange peels, the children have enjoyed using natural materials to create their own colourful potions. They have been making predictions, observing changes, sharing ideas and working collaboratively with their peers.

Kinder

Term 3 has been full of wonder. We explored our natural world by focusing on animals and their habitats. We visited Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and the Marine Discovery Centre, we continued to love our Nature Play sessions and we have been busy in the kitchen making cockatoo biscuits, wombat stew, fish pizzas and sea creature sandwiches. We even made and ate sushi with Sensei Allan.

Kinder has been enjoying visiting the Chapel with Mrs Piesse, learning about the Creation and singing songs like My God is so Big and These Hands. The Book Week Parade and the Arts Festival were highlights for the Kinder students. When asked about their favourite part, the most common response was ‘walking on the catwalk’ or ‘singing and dancing on stage!’ Kinder also (co)hosted their first school assembly and did an excellent job.

Our Kinder students are dedicated, enthusiastic and joyful. It is a pleasure to work with them. Keep up the good work Kinder!

Prep

Prep have had a wonderful and busy Term.  We have marked our first 100 days of full time schooling by celebrating 100 days of Prep. We have been busy reading many great books and responding by using our Visual Arts skills.  We also enjoyed dressing up as our favourite book characters as part of our Book Week celebrations.

One of our biggest highlights of the term was performing at the College Arts Festival.  The prep girls enjoyed dressing up in their costumes and showcasing their skills through their song and dance.  We thank Mrs Lincoln and Ms Trost for supporting us with our endeavours in these areas.

What a wonderful art-filled term. Year 1 absolutely loved creating visual art pieces and learning a song and dance for the Arts Festival. Many students also hand-made their costumes for Book Week, enjoyed the school musical, and sang on stage with Andrew Chinn. All of our effort and resilience was evident on stage as they shone with pride and instantly asked "When is the next musical performance?" We are a very artistic and musical class for sure.

Year Two

Wow! What a fast and furious term it has been in Year 2.

We have flexed our artistic muscles by exploring colour families and patterns, studying the work of Australian artist, Sheree Smith, and creating pieces of art in her style. We also created beautiful butterflies using complementary colours and studied the protea paintings of Jude Walker. We mixed our own colours and tones, deliberately made the flowers look abstract. We also used paint pens to outline the proteas which made the flower POP because we used contrasting colours.

In Science we took our learning to space, studying our solar system and marvelling at the enormity of the Universe. We visited the Grote Reber museum and Mt Pleasant Observatory, a place that many of us had travelled past, but never been to. Scientist, Warren took us to the control room of ‘the dish’ and answered the many questions we had about the huge radio telescope and its role in space communication.  We learned so many amazing things about our universe… just ask any Year 2 you know!

Year Three have had an amazing Term 3!

Some of the highlights of the term have been the Arts Festival and performing in our wonderful musical ‘Beauty and the Beast’. We have also been learning about Australian poetry and having fun writing our own poems.

This term, we were delighted to welcome two new classmates to our Year Three family.

It has been a busy and exciting term, and we are all looking forward to our well-earned break!

Year Five Navy

It has been such a busy and rewarding term for 5 Navy.  Each morning, students have raced in to participate in the Antarctic Quiz.  They have asked questions of the visiting young scientists and of Rosa's dad, Mr Lagerewskij- for some firsthand Antarctic experience and raced around the Islands to Ice Exhibition to scavenger as many facts as they could find. They are now such experts in all things, Antarctic.  5 Navy have made art, performed, danced and reviewed art.     Each Friday they left site to play netball or football.  Amongst all of this, our class has worked particularly hard in the classroom and can be proud of their efforts this term.

Year 6 White

What a crazy and exciting term it has been for Year 6 White! We have packed so much into the past few months and created plenty of memories along the way.

We had our Arts Festival, where we brought From Little Things Big Things Grow to life through our collage and lyric art. We sang a song from the Adams Family and danced to Ordinary by Alex Warren. It was fantastic to see everyone working together to create and perform art.

Some of our students also took on the challenge of Tournament of Minds (TOMs), working together to solve problems creatively and think outside the box. All the girls involved took time out of their recess and lunch to prepare for what was a challenging task.

We enjoyed getting into the spirit of Book Week, celebrating books, authors and characters. Of course, we dressed up for the occasion and had our time on the catwalk.

We were lucky enough to welcome Ms Orpin, our wonderful prac student, to Year 6 White this term. She became part of our classroom and joined us for plenty of our learning and adventures over the course of her four weeks with us.

Without a doubt, the big highlight was our Canberra school trip! We explored some incredible places, learnt about Australia’s history and government, and had plenty of fun and laughs along the way. I’m sure we created memories that will stay with us for life.

Footy Colours Day

Our school was a sea of colour as students and staff came together to celebrate Footy Colours Day. Everyone proudly wore the colours of their favourite AFL, NRL, soccer, rugby, or local sporting teams, creating a fun and vibrant atmosphere throughout the day.

The event provided an opportunity for students to show their team spirit while raising money for an important cause. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and excitement as students shared stories about their favourite teams and players with their classmates.

A highlight of the day was seeing the incredible range of jerseys, scarves, hats, and team colours on display. From AFL powerhouses to local junior clubs, every team was represented with pride.

Thank you to all families for supporting Footy Colours Day and helping make it such a memorable event.

Primary Musical

A tale as old as time took center stage as our Primary School delivered a magnificent performance of Beauty and the Beast. Students from Years 1 through 5 brought the classic soundtrack to life through engaging choral and dance numbers. Special recognition goes to our lead cast members, whose dedicated lunchtime rehearsals with staff truly paid off. By thoughtfully exploring the elements of drama, these young performers brought their characters to life and seamlessly transported the audience into a storybook world.
