As Term 3 comes to a close, we want to reflect on two important initiatives launched this term to highlight the values of gratitude and student voice within our College community.
Gratitude Wall
Gratitude is the conscious choice to notice and appreciate the good things in your life, no matter how small. Practising gratitude helps shift our focus away from stress, academic pressure and social comparison, pointing us toward what is working well. It builds resilience and fosters a positive mindset.
Over the last few weeks, we hosted a Gratitude Wall across the Secondary School. Students in Year 7-10 were invited to write down something they were thankful for on a sticky note and add it to the display. We received a range of thoughtful responses - from appreciation for family, friends, and teachers, to gratitude for sports and having a roof over their heads. We loved seeing active participation in this initiative, and hope it served as a meaningful reminder of positives around us.

To continue to practice gratitude over the holidays and into Term 4, here are a few simple habits to try:
Wellbeing Committee
We have also been working hard to establish our new Wellbeing Committee. Earlier this year, we invited students across the College to join a group focused on improving Wellbeing at Mount Carmel. We were thrilled to receive responses from Years 7- 10, ensuring representation across the Secondary School.
Our first meeting was a great success, bringing diverse perspectives. Following this initial session, we are collaborating with Miss Hudson to put these student-led ideas into action wherever possible.
Rather than having students passively follow instructions, we want to hear their opinions and ensure their perspectives shape Mount Carmel’s future. While not every suggestion can be implemented, we will try to accommodate changes when we can. We are excited to see what the Wellbeing Committee will achieve. Next term we will be meeting with representatives from the Primary school to capture their voice.
We hope you all have a restful school holiday, and we can’t wait to see you all again in Term 4!
