The Language of Sound

This term, the Orange Team have been exploring the language of sound through

• Engaging in deep listening to sounds inside, outside and in different spaces around the school
• Thinking about different sounds our bodies make
• Exploring sounds in the food we eat
• Exploring the vibration of sound and how sound waves work 
• As well as making our own musical sounds

We made a music wall using metal objects and spoons, creating a space to explore making our own music. We talked about different sounds, high sounds, low sounds, loud and soft sounds, noticing what shape or size the metal objects had to create these different sounds. It was noisy but fun, with high levels of engagement. As they played with the music wall, the children commented ...

Agam - "a loud sound, oh my ear drums"

Harvey - "It’s like banging and loud bells"

Golpar - "like a little song"

Mackenzie - "it sounded like thunder and when bells ring too"

Ethan - "Two little pans are the tappers, they are the same."

Juho - "It's like a drum, it rings, and the spoon hits them it makes sound, this big one makes a bang. This one is like a bell sound. When you do them all together it makes a rain sound, like a thunderstorm.  The big one makes the thunderstorm and the other ones make the rain"

Grace - "These big ones make big vibrations and theses little ones make little vibrations. The sound makes different noises when you tap them."
