Angels

Over the past week, Leah Stewart's story of survival has been in the minds and hearts of many Australians. It is a story of extraordinary courage, a mother's determination to protect her child and the power of hope in the face of unimaginable adversity. It is also a story that reminds us of the goodness that exists within our communities.

One of the aspects of Leah's story that has resonated with me most deeply is the number of people who were there to help when tragedy struck. Those who stopped to assist, offer comfort and provide support 

became, in many ways, angels in human form. Their compassion and selflessness were a powerful reminder that God often works through ordinary people to bring hope, healing and strength to others.

As Catholics, we also believe in the presence of heavenly angels. Among the most well-known in our faith are the Archangels St Michael, St Gabriel and St Raphael.

St Michael the Archangel is known as the protector and defender of God's people. He inspires us to stand up for what is right, show courage in difficult situations and place our trust in God's strength. 

St Gabriel the Archangel is God's messenger, best known for bringing the Good News to Mary that she would become the mother of Jesus. Through Gabriel's example, we learn the importance of listening to God, sharing messages of hope and responding to God's call with faith and openness. 

St Raphael the Archangel is associated with healing, guidance and care for others. His example reminds us to show compassion, support those in need and trust that God is always guiding us on our journey through life.

The Church celebrates the Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael on 29 September each year. As a school community, may we look to these Archangels as examples of faith, service and love. However, let us also remember that we are ALL called to be "angels" for one another through our acts of kindness, compassion and care, carrying God's love into the lives of those around us.

STMM School Readiness Playgroup  - Building Strong Foundations 

At STMM, we are committed to supporting children and families well before they begin Kindergarten. This term, we launched our School Readiness Playgroup, which is held every Friday at 9:10am and is open to our future Kindergarten 2027 students, as well as families from the local community.

Our School Readiness Playgroup provides children with opportunities to explore, create, interact and learn in a supportive environment, while helping families build meaningful connections with our school community. By fostering positive early learning experiences and strong family-school partnerships, we are investing in the best possible start for every child.

Each week, children participate in play-based learning experiences that promote early literacy, numeracy, creativity, communication and social development. Every session is centred around a key learning focus. This term, our learning experiences have included:

• Week 2: Early Literacy

• Week 3: 2D Shapes

• Week 4: Days of the Week

• Week 5: Months of the Year

• Week 6: Book Week

• Week 7: Early Scripture – The Lost Sheep
