Ready, set, take off!

Welcome back to Term Two! Our teachers have set the wheels in motion, and we’re all geared up for another fantastic term of learning, growth, and fun ahead! ✨

We’ve jumped straight back in where we left off, it’s all systems go! Across the classrooms, our little learners are buzzing with excitement, and their grey lead pencils are already dancing across the page with creativity and confidence. ✏️

Inform & Empower

We’re excited to once again offer our Junior School students the opportunity to take part in the Inform & Empower Cyber Safety & Digital Wellbeing program. Through engaging live-stream incursions each term, our cherubs will build the knowledge and confidence they need to navigate the online world safely.

In today’s ever evolving digital landscape, these sessions play an important role in helping students understand how to stay safe, make smart choices, and look after their wellbeing online. This week Prep to Year Two students participated in Healthy Digital Habits, where they explored the importance of balancing screen time with green time, building healthy sleep routines, and understanding why it can sometimes be tricky to switch off from our devices.

Prep News

We welcome back Miss Wood from her overseas advneture. It has been a pelasure hearing all her stories and the students have been obsessed to have her back. Gasps of delight echoed down the corridor as children eagerly called out for a moment with Miss Wood. We kindly thank Jacqui Bunn for taking such great care of Prep WL while she has been away. Jacqui’s gentle and nurturing approach ensured the class continued to feel supported and settled throughout the time Miss Wood was away.

Prep students have dived straight into meaningful learning, continuing to build strong foundations in Literacy through engaging daily Heggerty sessions. Preps have been learning about closed syllables, where the vowel is trapped between consonants and cannot shout out its letter name in words such as sit, fit and shop.

In Writing, Preps have been learning about nouns, they recognise that a noun is a name given to a person, place, thing or animal. Stuents are becoming familiar with identifying nouns in sentences.

In Maths, our young mathematicians have been developing their number sense by taking numbers and partitioning them to create part–part–whole models. They are building strong conceptual understanding through a range of hands-on activities using counters and cubes to represent and explore number relationships.

Year One News

During MSL, the Year One students have been learning about the different ways to represent the 'k' sound through the 'Cat and Kite Rule.' This rule explains that k is used before i, e, and y, as in king, keep, and sky, while c is used before a, o, and u, as in camp, cot, and cute.

In Writing, the Year Ones have been focusing on building question sentences based on pictures. They are learning to recognise that question sentences often begin with who, what, where, or when. Additionally, they have been learning about the conjucntions,' but' and 'because' in their writing which have helped make their sentences more detailed and interesting for the reader.

In Maths, students have been having fun exploring measurement. They have been using informal strategies, such as a piece of string, to compare the length of different objects around the classroom. The Year Ones have been using language such as longer than and shorter than as they investigate and order objects from shortest to longest. Additionally, the Year One teachers have placed a special focus on number formation, have a look at their awesome efforts at completing their daily number formation sprints.

Year Two News

Look at these proud writers who showcased their exceptional work this week. Not only did they demonstrate their growing ability to use subordinate conjunctions in their sentences, but they also met the high expectations for presentation in their bookwork. The Year Two teachers were delighted to see such care and effort reflected in their writing.

Watch this space, I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing even more impressive writing in the weeks ahead!

In MSL students have been learning about The Pitch Rule. When there is a short vowel that has no constant we add 'tch' protector shield. If there is a short vowel osund and a letter friend beside the vowel we simply add 'ch'.

Alongside this, students have been enjoying learning about morphology, where they explore how words are formed and structured. This includes looking at parts of words such as prefixes, suffixes, and base words, and how they work together to create meaning. Students have recently focused on the suffix -able, discovering how it can be added to words to show that something can be done.

In Writing, the Year Two students have been learning about subordinating conjunctions, including when, if, before, and after. Students have been exploring how these words help to join ideas together, creating more detailed and interesting sentences in their writing.

In Maths, the Year Two students have been learning about adding two-digit numbers with one-digit numbers using both mental and written strategies. They have been practising the jump strategy and the split strategy to solve addition problems efficiently and accurately. Students are developing confidence in partitioning numbers, counting on, and explaining the strategies they use when solving mathematical problems.

A special shout out to Flynn, our wonderful Year Two student, who has been leading the way as a fantastic role model. Kindly going out of his way to collect students’ jackets that had been left on the yard at recess, showing great initiative, leadership and care for others.

Little Minds, Big Discoveries!

We are so blessed to welcome Miss Alen as our new STEM teacher. She captivated the attention of our little learners with her fun and engaging lessons. The children returned to class buzzing with excitement as they eagerly shared their stories and insights about healthy foods and the different ways they help our bodies grow and stay strong.

Mother's Day

One of our most anticipated days each year is Mother’s Day, and this year was no exception. Our Junior School truly shone during Friday’s assembly, delivering a beautiful and heartfelt performance. There wasn’t a dry eye in the hall, with more than a few happy tears as the students sang their hearts out.

Students were beaming with pride as they proudly took their families through the classroom, showcasing their learning and book work. Some parents were even lucky enough to witness Heggerty and Sound Pack in action, seeing first hand the wonderful learning happening each day.
