Principal News

Dear Families,
As we approach this coming Sunday, I would like to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and special women in our lives. Following our wonderful breakfast celebration, it was a joy to host our Mother’s Day assembly. We were all moved by the beautiful performance from our Junior School students in Prep, Year 1, and Year 2, who sang a special tribute to the women who care for them. It was equally wonderful to see so many visitors in our classrooms afterward, sharing in the children's learning and witnessing their progress first hand.
Sacred Heart Community Events
Our community thrives because of the dedicated families who go above and beyond:
Mother’s Day Stall
A huge thank you to Emily, Jess and Emily for organising and helping with the stall. The children were so excited to shop for their surprise gifts, and they truly cannot wait to share them with you this weekend!
Mother's Day Breakfast
Thank you to Luisa for all that you do so seemlessly. Thanks also to Ant for organising some of the Dads to help set up/serve/clean up. Many thanks to those Dads who assisted. For the beautiful display for assembly, we also thank Laura. Such a beautiful morning had by all.
Flags & Special Visitors
Last Friday, we welcomed Brad Rowswell (Member for Sandringham, Shadow Minister, and Sacred Heart Dad) and Cr Debbie Taylor Haynes (Bayside City Council Mayor). They presented us with our new flags, which are now flying proudly on our poles and will be used at every weekly assembly.
School Improvements
Our netball and basketball posts look brand new thanks to Keith and Adam, who replaced the nets recently. Outside, Michael and Brendan have been working tirelessly on our new front garden bed. It was hot and sweaty work digging in the heat on Friday to lay the foundations. We will be calling for a few extra helping hands soon to put in soil and new plants.
Uniform Shop
We acknowledge Kate and Tarn for their ongoing support in the uniform shop. Please note that while we wait for supplier updates, students may wear either Summer or Winteruniform for the next few weeks.
Staffing Updates
We are delighted to welcome back Miss Wood from her Long Service Leave! She shared wonderful stories of her trip to Norway and her time catching up with family. We also extend a sincere thank you to Mrs Bunn for her fantastic work looking after Prep WL alongside Ms Levy during Miss Wood’s absence.
P & F and School Advisory Council (SAC)
P&F and School Advisory Council
Last Monday, Miss Maloney and I met with our energetic P&F team. Their passion for creating a warm, welcoming community is the heartbeat of our school. This week, Mrs Stroud and I also met with the School Advisory Council to plan for the year ahead and celebrate the high-quality Learning and Teaching and Student Agency/Voice opportunities taking place at Sacred Heart.
STEM & Sustainability: Miss Allen is off to a flying start! Our new STEM room is buzzing with activity as students from Prep to Year 6 engage in explicit, hands-on learning focused on our future.
Playground Progress:
We are so close! The new blue shade sails were installed this week. Our maintenance officer, Steve, is finishing the final touches. It is wonderful to see our students and toddlers enjoying this vibrant new space.
Thanks to Lucy and Hazel for sorting our very tangled skipping ropes. It is great to see our students using their initiative to support our school.
Year One and Year Two Art Work with Ms Gray
Our Year Ones and Year Twos have been learning about the seven Aboriginal seasons of the Boon Wurrung / Kulin Nation / Melbourne area. The Year Ones drew what is happening in nature with the animals and plants at different times of the year. The Year Two students painted wombats, as in ‘Waring’ (wombat) season From April to July.
Sporting Updates
Dendy Cross Country
Last Thursday, 73 of our students showed incredible "grit" at the challenging Bald Hill Park course. Their dedication to Friday morning Run Club certainly paid off! We thank Mr Jaynes for his organisation of our team.

Enrolment Updates
We are thrilled to announce that Prep 2027 enrolments have officially closed with two full classes and strong waitlists across all year levels. This success is a testament to our community and the "Sacred Heart word" you share with friends.
I want to acknowledge the foundation laid by our previous principal, Mr Simon Collis, as well as the ongoing leadership of Mrs Kate Stroud (Deputy Principal- Literacy Leader) and Ms Sarah Rafferty (Deputy Principal - Learning and Teaching Leader), alongside our hard-working staff. We never take these numbers for granted and remain committed to providing the best educational experience for every child.
While 2028 Open Days begin next term, we are open every day for enrolment tours. Please contact the office to book a time.
Student-Led Assemblies
We congratulate our Year Six students for hosting our Sacred Heart assemblies. We were really proud of Noah, Sienna (last Friday) and, Simon and Zara (today). On the Wednesday prior to the Friday, the hosts meet with me. Over a hot chocolate and some biscuits we discuss the assembly. We look at what has happened around the school and how to share this with the community. We try to highlight students across the school and explore ways to engage the students, staff and parents at assembly. We then practice this in preparation for the Friday. The students learn how to use the microphone and how to address the audience to ensure that they are heard and understood, as we go over our notes. At all times these students are supported and then we have a debrief afterwards. The students are so proud of themselves, and hosting is a highlight of their senior year at Sacred Heart.
Celebrate Learning
Our favourite times of each day. We love celebrating learning at Sacred Heart.
Wishing you all a blessed and wonderful Sunday celebration.
