Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to term two after what was hopefully a relaxing and enjoyable holiday and Easter period. It was wonderful to see and hear the students return looking happy and refreshed ready for another exciting term.
Last week was a really nice way to start the term with our student leaders once again taking us through a very moving ANZAC Day service. We were very fortunate to have Ross from the RSL join us and share some emotive stories, as well as Alice Jordan-Baird MP and Member for Gorton who presented the school with a new Australian flag, and Bella's grandfather who is a Vietnam veteran all lay a wreath on our behalf. It was very well done by all involved.
This week is equally a very happy occasion, and a somewhat sad occasion as we say thank you and farewell to Ann Gemayel, or Miss G. Ann has been much loved, respected and hard working teacher at Mackellar for twenty years, with this week marking her last before a well-earned retirement.
We have ordered extra boxes of tissues in advance of this week, as there will be much laughter, loads of jokes and many tears as we farewell a stalwart of Mackellar. Friday of this week will be Ann's last day, so be sure to catch up with her before then.
Our whole school athletics day is fast approaching and this is a day where we would love to see as many parents, grandparents and family as possible join us. The canteen will be open with more adult food available on the day and there will be a coffee van for adults. We would love to see you all come along and join the fun and Miss Emily is currently seeking parent helpers to assist on the day. If you can, please reach out to Emily as I am sure she will be very grateful.
Also fast approaching is our Education Week Expo, to be held on Tuesday May 19 from 4- -6:30pm. The theme for this year's expo is 'Showcase your school'. As such, we will be running the expo a little differently this year with activities not tied to classrooms, but to offerings Mackellar has generally. Be sure to mark the date and time in your diary. Food and drinks will be available for sale on the night and we expect this to be our best expo ever!
If that isn't enough, we also have our 2027 (can you believe it!) Enrolment Information Night on Wednesday May 27th. If you know someone who has a child due to start school next year, please let them know of this session and invite them along. The more the merrier.
All this can be hard to keep track of. So in addition to the newsletter and XUNO, we have also launched the official Mackellar Primary School Instagram page. Why not follow us to keep a track of all events, and to see some exciting photos, stories and reels about life at Mackellar. Our handle is: @mackellarps or www.instagram.com/mackellarps
Kind regards,
Simon McGlade
Principal
