Wellbeing Snapshot: Smiling Mind
This term, students are exploring our wellbeing focus of “Strong Inside, Calm Outside.” They are learning to recognise and name their emotions, while developing strategies to respond in calm and positive ways.
Through our Smiling Mind sessions, students are building mindfulness skills such as pausing, focusing on their breathing, and bringing their attention to the present moment. These strategies support students to manage strong feelings, stay focused, and make thoughtful choices.
Some simple strategies we are encouraging students to use include:
- Stop, Breathe, Think
- Name it to tame it (say how you feel)
- Take a calm-down moment
- Use your slow breathing
We encourage families to support this learning at home by having regular conversations about emotions and modelling calm responses in everyday situations.
Thanks,
Fiona Arthur (School Wellbeing Co-ordinator)
