SWPBS at POPS

At Park Orchards Primary School, we use School-wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) to teach and acknowledge positive student behaviours. SWPBS is an internationally recognised framework with an extensive evidence base that is shown to improve behavioural, wellbeing, and academic outcomes for children and young people. SWPBS focuses on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviours while providing targeted assistance to students who may need extra support, leading to a more successful and inclusive learning community.
The approach also improves teacher wellbeing by providing them with the tools to establish positive learning climates, where they can focus on teaching and learning, thereby increasing engagement and instructional time.
SWPBS is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrives.
An essential aspect of SWPBS is to provide clear behaviour expectations and rules for our whole school community so everyone can work together to the same standard. Park Orchards Primary has developed its positive behaviour program in consultation with students, staff and families.
Our behaviour expectations apply to all staff and students – in the classroom, in the yard and in the wider community. They are:
- Be Kind
- Be Excellent
- Be Respectful
- Be Honest
To support a consistent approach to what that means in different settings, the College has developed a behaviour matrix, which is available below.
