This week the P-2 students started a new topic, Food and Fibre. Students looked at various foods and their journey. We found out that most foods begin as either a plant or animal. We also looked at why people choose to eat foods and how these vary from country to country.

This fortnight in the 3/4 area students began a new topic, Food and Fibre. As a class we explored and discussed where foods come from and their journey from “Paddock to Plate”. Students were surprised by how easy it was to produce cottage cheese, which we made and tasted together.

For optimal food production, water supply plays a key role. Students this week were given the challenge of designing and creating a “Water Transport System” for the school vegetable garden. Below are some examples of their work in progress.

This week the 5/6 classes delved into a new topic, Food and Fibre. Students discussed food sources and began to explore the process of “Paddock to Plate” for a chosen food. We learned about the difference between a plant and animal source and that the more stages a food goes through generally means the more processed it has become e.g. Orange to Orange Juice. Students presented their finding using various visual aids. See examples below.

                      NEWS FROM THE ART ROOM

We continue to be very busy in the art room, with the Prep/1/2 classes spending this term creating artworks relating to the Earth and Space.

The 3/4s will be working on artworks that relate to their inquiry topics of Water Systems and Geology, along with a couple of other fun and interesting projects.

The 5/6s will be exploring and responding to the work of various artists this term and I look forward to seeing what they create.

Art Club also continues to be very popular during Tuesday lunch times and it's wonderful to see what students choose to make and how much they enjoy this extra bit of Art time!
