Year 5/6 News

Literacy
In literacy this week, students began exploring their Lions Clubs topic for 2026 and started the early stages of researching their chosen person. They focused on gathering basic information, asking questions, and building an understanding of who their person is and why they are significant, laying the foundation for further research and learning.
Numeracy
Students in Years 5 and 6 are developing important life skills by learning how to convert time between 12-hour and 24-hour formats and interpret timetables in real-life situations. Through engaging activities, they practise reading bus, train, and event schedules, helping them understand how time is organised throughout the day. This learning supports their ability to plan ahead, be punctual, and confidently navigate everyday scenarios where accurate time reading is essential.
ANZAC Day
Students learnt about ANZAC Day and its importance in remembering the soldiers from Australia and New Zealand who served and sacrificed in wars. They explored the values of bravery, mateship, and resilience, especially during the Gallipoli campaign. To show their understanding, students completed a soldier silhouette artwork, reflecting on the individuals behind the uniforms and expressing respect for their service in a creative way.
Thanks,
Chris, Trish and Tracey.
