Year 1/2 News

Welcome back to Term 2! 

Our Grade 1/2 students have settled back into school routines beautifully and have shown such a positive attitude towards their learning this week. They should be very proud of their efforts! 

Literacy

In our first week back, students enjoyed reflecting on their holidays as they planned and began writing personal recounts. They have been using the 5 Ws (who, what, when, where, and why) to add detail, while structuring their writing with a clear beginning, middle and end. 

Our students have continued to blow us away with their whiteboard work during our phonics lessons. Check out these legends! 

Numeracy

Students have been learning to apply a range of strategies to solve addition problems. They have used concrete materials, drawings, friends of 10, number lines, doubles facts, making 10 and partitioning to work through different sums. We will continue to practise these strategies next week to further strengthen their confidence and understanding, as well as begin to explore a range of subtraction strategies.
