Leading With Courage and Compassion

Last Friday, our Middle School community gathered for a vibrant and purposeful assembly that highlighted leadership, service, and the spirit of the Lenten season.

One of the key announcements was our involvement in Clean Up Australia Day this Sunday, 1 March. Students were encouraged to take part in this important initiative, recognising that caring for our environment is a meaningful way to live out our responsibility as stewards of creation. We look forward to seeing members of our College community actively contributing to the care of our local surroundings.

As we enter the season of Lent, we also introduced our upcoming Lenten fundraising initiatives and the charities we will be supporting. Lent is a sacred time of reflection, prayer, and action. Through our fundraising efforts, we are called to put our faith into practice by standing in solidarity with those in need. Also, another highlight of the assembly was the presentation of our new Year 7 and Year 8 Student Ambassadors. These students have already demonstrated commitment, integrity, and a willingness to serve others. As ambassadors they will model respect, kindness, and responsible leadership within our Middle School. We congratulate them on their appointment and look forward to the positive impact they will have on our community.

We also heard from Dr Lavorato, who spoke to students about the importance of taking the “right risks.” She challenged our young people to step outside their comfort zones — not for attention or approval, but for growth, courage, and the greater good. Dr Lavorato thoughtfully connected this message to our College Touchstones of Gospel Spirituality,Inclusivity, and Justice and Solidarity. During this Lenten period, Dr Lavorato reminded us that taking the right risks might mean standing up for others, welcoming those who feel excluded, choosing kindness when it is difficult, and acting with compassion and integrity.

The assembly was a powerful reminder that leadership is not about titles, but about action; not about comfort, but about courage; and not about self-interest, but about service. As we journey through Lent together, may we be committed to making a difference.
