'St Pat’s Tough'

Last Friday, I had the pleasure of formally introducing myself to the student body at both the Senior and Middle Schools’ College Assemblies. During this time, I shared a little of my professional background and expressed how genuinely excited and grateful I am to be joining the St Patrick’s College community.

Importantly, this is not my first connection with St Patrick’s. In 2009, I had the privilege of playing on Breen Oval in a First XV Rugby fixture. While the scoreboard that day suggested my team had a comfortable result, what has remained with me many years later was not the margin, but the spirit of the St Patrick’s players. Despite the circumstances of the match, they never stopped competing and continued to play with determination until the final whistle. That attitude left a lasting impression and earned my utmost respect.

Now, having joined the College and observed many of our summer sporting teams in action, I can clearly see that this same spirit remains a defining characteristic of our students. It is evident in their effort, resilience and commitment, and it is something I would describe as being ‘St Pat’s Tough’.

As the summer season draws to a close, with several teams competing in finals over the coming weeks and other external competitions still underway, I encourage all students to embody what it means to be ‘St Pat’s Tough’. Compete with pride, persevere in the face of challenge, and continue to give your best until the final whistle. This mindset is equally important as we transition into winter sport, particularly during trials and selections. Being ‘St Pat’s Tough’ means confronting adversity with courage, responding positively to feedback, and striving for continual improvement.

I am confident that if we, as a College community, continue to embrace this mindset, our sporting program will go from strength to strength -  achieving success on the field while, more importantly, developing resilient, respectful and well-rounded young men.

Best of luck to all teams competing in finals over the coming weeks.

ISA Representation

Congratulations to Lewis Massih (Year 10) on his outstanding selection in both the 19U ISA First V Basketball Team and the 16U ISA Basketball Team. Lewis will represent ISA in a 19U fixture against AICES on 12 March and will then trial for the 16U NSWCIS Team in May. This is a significant achievement, particularly as Lewis is the only Year 10 student selected in the 19U ISA representative sides.

Congratulations also to Owen Leung (Year 11) who has been selected in the ISA Representative Tennis Team. Owen will represent ISA in fixtures against AAGPS and CAS on 19 March. We wish him every success.

Student Supporters’ Uniform

With many SPC teams participating in finals over the coming weeks, students are reminded that when attending fixtures in support of the College and their peers, they are required to wear the College Supporters’ Uniform. Students should not attend in plain or non-College attire when representing the College at sporting events.

Students who are not competing are strongly encouraged to attend finals fixtures where possible. A strong and visible supporters’ presence plays an important role in fostering College spirit and providing encouragement to our teams.
