We value each student’s ‘voice’ as it provides the teachers and the College Leadership Team with diverse and unique perspectives.
Social Media Restrictions
I was reflecting over the weekend on the impact of the Australian Government’s decision to impose age restrictions on social media access. After the initial flurry of communication there had been little in the way of information until earlier this week when the e-Safety Commission announced new resources via the new ‘Social Media Age Restrictions Hub’. Further details will be provided to parents/carers, staff and students.
I have also recently read an online article prepared by Kirra Pendergast where she reflects on the confusion that some students and parents/carers are experiencing; especially the fear that students have about breaking the law. In the article, she reminds readers that the restrictions are focused on the social media platforms taking responsibility rather than imposing penalties on children or their parents.
I share her concern that students may be fearful of reporting cyberbullying or online abuse because they are using a social media platform. I take this opportunity to remind students and parents/carers that the College can be contacted if any concerns arise aboutfor a student’s safety and wellbeing. We are here to provide support and guidance.
Additionally, the organisations below can also provide assistance:

The Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation operates through the Australian Federal Police at https://www.accce.gov.au.
