August, 2024 - FACT: Those who have goals are 10 times more likely to succeed than those without goals.
As Year 12 students are completing their Trial HSC exams, students are working towards planning their options post school. For some students this may involve further study at University, Private Institution or TAFE, and for other students this may be transition to full time employment. Some students are uncertain about their next steps so it is vital to complete research and self-reflection. Included in this newsletter is the Open Days for a number of institutions. I urge students to attend these Open Days to make informed decisions about the next step in their education.
It has been a busy term as several universities and colleges have presented at our Tuesday afternoon THRIVE sessions. This has allowed students to discover options for further study as well as explore scholarship opportunities. We thank the following tertiary institutions - University of Wollongong, UTS, SEDA College, Australian College Physical Education (ACPE), UTS Elite Athletes, and University of Western Sydney for spending time with our students. We look forward to welcoming the University of Sydney and UNSW following the Trial HSC exams.
Community Partnerships with Sealevel and Natale Group
Recently our Year 12 Hospitality students had the opportunity to partner with local restaurants Sealevel, Giro Osteria and Alphabet Street. Over two consecutive evenings, our students worked with head chefs Chris Russo (Sealevel), Huon Muntz (Kin Cafe), Paata (Giro Osteria), and Mae and Jue (Alphabet Street) to produce a three course menu for over 130 guests. It was a fantastic evening, where our students learned valuable industry skills and were able to hone their hospitality skills. As noted by Mary Bancks, VET Manager of Sydney Catholic Schools, “the event was an educational experience that allowed students to work in a professional kitchen environment, learning from some of the best in the industry. The success of the event not only highlighted the talents of the students but also underscored the importance of industry partnerships in education.”
With deadlines fast approaching, Year 12 students need to be aware of the following key dates for university applications:
30 September - Early Bird Deadline - Significant increase to application fee after this date
21 November - Educational Access Scheme (EAS) application and documentation deadline
18 December - 2023 ATARs released
23 December - UAC Offers released
University Open Days - Open days are invaluable in helping students make informed decisions about their course preferences. Most open days take place at this time of year, so be sure to be up to date of the Uni Open Days, 2024

Scholarships are a great way to help you fund your future studies. One type of scholarship that can provide significant help is industry-specific scholarships. These scholarships are often sponsored by companies and are designed to support students who are interested in pursuing a career in that field. Each university has its own scholarship program to investigate, some of which are included here. I encourage students to submit applications for scholarships, as many go unclaimed.
