Term 2, Week 10

Welcome back to the Grade 1/2 page!

As we come to the end of another busy and rewarding term, we would like to thank all of our students and families for their ongoing support throughout the semester. It has been wonderful to see the growth each student has made, not only in their learning but also in their confidence, resilience, and friendships.

We hope everyone has a safe, relaxing, and well-deserved holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next term for another exciting semester of learning and fun!

What we have been up to...

Last week, our focus text was Flood. This powerful story explores the impact of a flood on a community and highlights the bravery, resilience, and kindness shown by those who help others during difficult times. After reading the text, students discussed the important events and messages in the story before creating a picture to represent what they had learnt. Many students chose to create rescue scenes or heroes helping members of the community, demonstrating their understanding of the themes of courage and compassion.

This week, our focus text is Just One Bee. Students have been fascinated learning about the important role that bees play in our environment and why they are essential for plants, animals, and people. Throughout the week, we have explored interesting facts about bees, their life cycle, and how they help pollinate many of the foods we eat.

In Writing, students have continued developing their narrative writing skills while also creating an informative little fact book about bees. They have been applying their knowledge of text structure and using interesting vocabulary to engage their readers, as well as presenting factual information in a clear and organised way.

In Mathematics, students have been learning about fact families to strengthen their understanding of the relationship between addition and subtraction. They have been using known number facts to solve related equations and developing confidence in recognising how numbers can be connected in different ways. This understanding supports students in becoming more fluent and efficient when solving mathematical problems.
