EASTER BLESSINGS

In this final Principal’s Bulletin for Term 1, we await the Feast of Easter and as a Christian feast it will be celebrated on Sunday 20 April, Easter Sunday for so many Monicans. The glorious feast of Easter is the at the pinnacle of our faith and worship as we praise and proclaim the Living God, Jesus, from death to life eternal.

May all Monicans unite in harmony and peace and indeed pray hard and long for peace this Easter. There are so many conflicts in the world today, and if peace should ever be at the front of our mind and dwelling in our heart, then this year’s Easter is the time.

Jesus Christ did not come to earth from Heaven above to bring evil, death, suffering and hatred to the world. Jesus is a God of Peace, a king who saves and created a divine Kingdom to overcome all the evil that so harms our world.

Easter is a national holiday when we take the time to relax, probably gather as family, paint Easter symbols, and eat chocolate bunny rabbits. However, in 2025 let there be billions of moments of discovery and have people in every nation open their eyes and ears to Jesus and His words of peace.

Easter can be a time when there are motor car accidents on our roads. Let us travel with care. Easter can be a time when many people are lost and lonely, let us reach out and welcome in the stranger, the isolated one, the sad person. Easter can be a time when there are excesses such as gluttony, greed and avarice for material things. Let us purposefully sacrifice the good things for the difficult things to achieve, let us love our neighbour before goods and chattels, especially loving those in our community most hard to love.

The Churches organise beautiful liturgies at Easter, Catholic and Orthodox churches in our northern suburbs will commemorate Good Friday, and pray at Easter Vigils, and be born anew on Easter Sunday morning. Amongst the smoke, incense, golden robes and clanging bells, may our prayers for peace rise above the throng and things and reach a heavenly home with God.

I extend my best wishes to all Monican families for the school holidays: I thank all who have contributed to St Moncia’s College in Term 1. God bless all and celebrate alone and with others a peaceful and holy Easter.
