Vocational Education and Training

Rachael Philp - VET Coordinator

This year we have successfully enrolled our students in VET courses, taking up 112 places within the Northern Melbourne Vet Cluster host schools.

Our students are studying the following certificate II or III VET courses this year:

  • Building and Construction
  • Construction Pathways
  • Automotive
  • Community Services
  • Cookery
  • Electrotechnology
  • Plumbing
  • Salon Assistant
  • Beauty Services
  • Make Up
  • Business
  • Early Childhood Education & Care
  • Health Services Assistance
  • Sport, Aquatics and Recreation
  • Women in Trades
  • And a Trade Taster course.

Many of our students are traveling to be able to attend a host school for their courses that are not so close to home. Our students are attending host schools like:

  • Outer Northern Trade Training Centre
  • Hazel Glen College
  • Marymede Catholic College
  • The Northern College of the Arts and Technology and of course
  • Peter Lalor Secondary College.

Our students are settling in well in their courses and are almost a third of the way through the VET year. It is really lovely to see how keen and motivated our students are to do well in their courses to be able to cement a great career pathway once they are completed. Many of our year 12 students are completing two years of VET in one year so that they can achieve an additional full certificate at the end of their senior studies.

Congratulations to the following students who all were awarded the ONTTC Student of the Week this term:

  • Madison Brannan-Medcraft – Building & Construction
  • Luka Jevic - Plumbing
  • Aiden Maunder - Plumbing
  • Tabitha Cosma – Women in Trades

This award highlights the effort and commitment the recipient has put in over multiple weeks. They consistently follow ONTTC’s values of attending with a positive mindset towards Integrity, Growth and Excellence. They also displayed their underlying values of skill development, respect, teamwork, accountability, and safety. All these values contribute to ONTTC’s end goal of preparing students with Employability skills which will best prepare them for the workplace.
