Teaching and Learning

David Husk - Assistant Principal

A very big welcome to all students and families at Peter Lalor Secondary College. For any new families joining us this year, the teaching and learning team and I are most excited to be alongside you as you embark on this journey with us.

Can you believe it we are at the close of term one, already! Seems like we only just started the year. For the best opportunities to experience academic and personal success, students need to commit to attend school every day. To commit to being on time to class, to commit to following teacher instructions and developing their stamina to complete their learning on time, all the time. This practice allows them to get on top of their learning, to avoid that dreaded last minute, or the night before rush to prepare adequately and have the greatest opportunity for success. We all have the same number of minutes available to us each day, but maximizing the best use of this time is a critical skill to ensure lifelong management in our daily lives.

Our first parent and teacher 3-Way Conference for the year took place on the 29th of January. This was a fantastic opportunity for parents and carers to gain an insight into our learning program and for our students to make connections with their teachers and other staff at the school as families partner with us to support their child/children in their learning.

Staff have been undertaking further professional learning on The Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 and unpacking evidenced based research into the ways to facilitate the best learning approaches for our students.

Interim reports

Our Term 1 Interim reports are provided to give parents and carers a ‘snap shot’ of their child’s commitment to following our agreed cooperation to improvement, by attending school every day, by arriving on time, being prepared to work, to follow all instructions willingly as a mature young adult and by considering everyone’s safety, especially when working in an adult learning environment. Each of these descriptors will highlight success or areas that need attention. This provides both carer and student to discuss and reflect upon their commitment to learning which is our core business.

Enjoy the term break and the teaching and learning team look forward to working closely with families and students in Term 2.
