McCarthy Chess Club wins the first games of the season.

Monday, 30th March, the McCarthy Chess club travelled to Calrossy to play the first round of the NSW Junior Chess League. On the day, both representative and social players took on the Calrossy chess players. The players were great ambassadors of the school.

The representative team of Jackson Medlock, Khang (Charlie) Nguyen, Tobias Porter and Chaise Gwatkin  played extremely well by defeating the Calrossy team 4-0.

The social players also showed how far they have come in developing their skills, with all players scoring comprehensive wins.

It is pleasing to see the depth of the playing skills, as these players are ready to step up and start representing the school.

On Wednesday, during the final week of term, the McCarthy chess players travelled to Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School. This forms the first game of the Sydney Chess Academy Chess Competition.

Fun Chess Fact

The first chess game played in space occurred in 1970 between the two cosmonauts on the Soyuz-9 spacecraft.
