Curriculum Update: High Expectations in Action

As the term progresses, our focus on high expectations is increasingly evident in students’ learning. In mentor groups, students have engaged in structured reflection to set personal learning goals and identify their next steps for learning. This is strengthening their ability to take ownership of their progress and respond purposefully to feedback.

Across classrooms, teachers continue to make expectations explicit through clear learning intentions, success criteria and models of quality. Students are becoming more confident in explaining what they are learning, why it matters, and what improvement looks like in each subject. This shared understanding is building independence and academic rigour.

Families can support this by engaging in conversations about learning and progress by asking:

  • What goal are you currently working towards?
  • What feedback have you received, and how are you using it?
  • What is your next step in improving your learning?

By reinforcing reflection, goal-setting and consistent routines, we are working together to develop motivated learners who actively drive their own growth.

Year 12 HSC, ATAR and Post-school Pathways Presentation

Important information regarding the HSC, NESA moderation of school assessment marks, ATAR and post-school pathways was shared with Yr 12 students on Tuesday, 24th March. Both presentations were also shared with students via Compass and students are encouraged to revisit this information with the parents and carers.

Stage 6 Assessment Protocols

Stage 6 assessment protocols have recently been communicated to all senior students and are available on the Curriculum Website:  https://sites.google.com/arm.catholic.edu.au/mcccurriculum/home

These protocols align with NESA requirements and clearly outline procedures for the submission of assessment tasks, as well as processes for illness or misadventure.

Students are responsible for understanding and adhering to these procedures. Year 11 students have engaged with this content through the All My Own modules, supporting their readiness to manage assessment requirements independently.

If a student is absent on the day of an assessment, they must notify the school by calling before 9:00am and meet with the relevant Leader of Learning on their first day back. Absences on the day before or the day of an assessment require a medical certificate to support any application for consideration.

Yr 12 reports

Year 12 Semester 1 reports will be available at the end of Week 1 next term. Bookings for the Parent Teacher conferences which will be held on Tuesday, 5th May will be opened on Monday, 27th April. Further details and information for booking will be shared via Compass.

NAPLAN

We are pleased to share that students from Year 7 and 9 have successfully completed their NAPLAN testing. They approached the assessments with engagement and adaptability, and we commend them for their efforts. Individual student reports will be available later in the year, providing insights into their progress. The school will send the reports out as they become available. Thank you for your support throughout the testing period.

Minimum Standards

Minimum Standards testing for Year 10 students assesses essential literacy and numeracy skills required for the HSC. These tests ensure students complete the necessary benchmarks for reading, writing, and numeracy to support their future learning and career pathways. Our school will complete the assessments during Term 2, and we will support students throughout the process. We are also currently completing catch-up tests for Year 11 students who still need to complete the minimum standards. If you have any questions, please contact the college for further information.
