CAPA

The Creative Arts department has had a busy end of term with some fantastic artmaking taking place in the classroom.
Our stage 4 Visual Arts classes have been exploring the natural world with paintings and sculptures in the style of Anna Blatman and Barbara Kobylinska. Students applied their study of colour with some amazing bird portraits inspired by the vibrant works of Anna Blatman. They took this further with the creation of bottle birds, made from recycled materials and plaster bandages. Many works will be featured in the Bendemeer Art Show which will take place in May.
Stage 4 Music students have started their study of the instruments of the orchestra, in which they have been able to view, hear and play many orchestral instruments. Students don’t always realise how common orchestral music is and they have found it very interesting to be able to identify the sounds that they are hearing.
Our musical ensembles are busy preparing for eisteddfod time. This year, the Choir, Concert Band, Woodwind Ensemble and Brass Ensemble will all participate in both the Gunnedah (20th May) and Tamworth (Bands: 4th June, Choir: 16th June) esteddfods . The eisteddfods this year will also feature a performance from the Senior Vocal Group, which is a first for McCarthy. The eisteddfods are a great opportunity for us to perform and receive critical feedback and also to hear the excellent musical work of the other schools.
Finally, a reminder that we have lessons on a range of instruments available for students to take part in here at school. If you would like more information about music lessons please complete the form by following this link.
