Dear Parents and Carers,

Sunny one day, wet the next! Term 4 has started extremely well at Somerville. We have a huge number of events this term for all of our students. Lots of excursions, incursions and events. The Grade 3-4 Students will be heading off on camp in a few weeks to Lord Somers. The Grade 3 to 6 students will also have Bike Education as part of the PE program this term; Mr Smith will be sending out information regarding this in coming weeks. The Prep-2 students have school swimming later this term as well.

Term 3 ended on a high, with our 43rd Footy Day! Thank you to all families for supporting the students with their team colours. Our student leaders led the way marching up Eramosa Road, greeted by all of the shopkeepers. This is a tradition we are looking forward to continuing to develop over coming years.

On the last day, our shade sails were installed over the main playground, thus providing more shade for our students during the warmer months. Thank you again to FoSP for all of their hard work fundraising for the sails.

Our Art Show is on this Term. Mrs Bingham and Mrs Antoniou have put together an outstanding plethora of art pieces, created by our students. We look forward to seeing everyone there,

Over the holidays, our library refurbishment was finished off with new carpet and acoustic panelling installed, new furniture delivered and over this week and next all of the shelves will be filled with books again.

The Prep classrooms also received the same refurbishment as the library with acoustic panelling and new carpet. Over the Christmas holidays there will be painting, and new carpet laid in the rest of the main building.

We have shifted to Compass this term. The shift will support improved school/family communication. Please do not use Compass to report late or early departure, only whole day absences. If students are late or early, parents must sign them in or out from the kiosk at the office.

Arriving to School – As per the Department of Education guidelines, supervision of the school yard starts 10 minutes before the school day. The yard is supervised from 8:40am. Students should not be at school before this time. If you need care for your child before school starts, please contact Camp Australia who provide both before and after school care.

As we come to the end of the year our Parents Association; Friends of Somerville Primary ‘FoSP’ are due to have a general election for office bearers. We would encourage anyone who is interested in joining FoSP, to contact Mel Barrett our Business Manager. Mel will be sending out further details regarding the election.

Have a great weekend.
