What's Happening this Week at SPS

LITERACY:

Reading - When reading, we are focusing on fact and opinion and questioning within texts. In particular we are looking at telling the difference between fact and opinion as well as using the 5 W’s to ask a question about a variety of texts.

Writing - We are looking at all aspects of persuasive writing this term. In weeks 1 & 2 we will be thinking of a topic to write persuasive pieces on and having reasons to support our opinion/argument. We will also focus on capital letters at the start of a sentence and for names of people and places.

Spelling - To read, write and spell words with the ly (loudly), a (squash), mn (column) and ous (fabulous)  grapheme (sound)  is our focus in weeks 1 and 2.

MATHS: We are introducing division. Our focus will be on making  equal shares to work out the answer to division sums and problems. We are also looking at mass and the ability to  compare and order objects capacity using informal units.

INQUIRY: This term we are exploring digital technology. Throughout the term students will identify how common digital systems are used to meet specific purposes.They will also create and organise ideas and information using information systems and share these in safe online environments. Weeks 1 & 2 will see us:

• Identify how to safely share content/images online.
• Describe and use strategies to protect their content/images online 
• Understand risks of friending strangers online 
• Recognise when to seek help with online dilemmas

HOMEWORK: Homework expectations are that students are completing home reading (at least every school night) and filling out their reading diary. Remember each student is aiming to get 200 nights of reading across the year to get a ticket to the Pizza Party at the end of this term! A reminder that your child also has a log in to mathseeds which they can access from home should they wish.

REMINDERS: 

• Year 2 sport Tuesday afternoons.

Our Mascots

Our Mascots are heading to your homes again during term 4. Bessy is going home with the children in 2MD and Bob is going home with the children in 2W. They will come home on a Wednesday and are expected to be returned on the following Monday. We have loved seeing what the mascots have been up to with the children so far and have seen some amazing handwriting from the children that they have then read and shared with their classes.
