Principal's Report

Ms Meg Woolford - Principal

Meeting with School Staff

Horsham College prides itself on keeping parents/carers informed about students, through phone, email, SEQTA messages and parent/carers meetings. If parents/carers wish to make a time to meet with a staff member, please ensure that you make an appointment to facilitate this. Whilst we do our best to be available when parents/carers come in unannounced, we cannot always accommodate this.

NAPLAN: Reminder

NAPLAN will be conducted from March 12th until March 24th. This timing allows schools access to NAPLAN data earlier in the year.

Assessments are undertaken online over a two-week period with students in Year 7 and Year 9 sitting four assessments across that time, and time allowed for additional ‘catch-up’ sessions for students.

Horsham College celebrates success in terms of personal growth, effort and attitude and we encourage our students to attempt the assessment to the best of their ability. NAPLAN provides an opportunity for students to practice completing an assessment in a highly structured environment. It is important that all students sit NAPLAN and experience the test conditions they are likely to experience as they move into the senior school. NAPLAN also provides rich information to our teachers about how they can continue to best support your child through point of need teaching and differentiated tasks.

If you are concerned that your child is anxious about NAPLAN please contact the school so that we can make sure there is appropriate support in place, thus enabling them to have a positive experience.

School Council 2026 – Parent Members

School Council sets the key directions of our school and can directly influence the quality of education our school provides for its students. It generally meets once a month on a Wednesday evening, with both the Finance and Accountability & Improvement sub-committees meeting the week prior. Our School Council for 2026 will soon be announced, and we have one remaining Parent member vacancy, so if you are interested in participating and supporting our students and college in this way, please reach out to either me or my assistant Melissa Trudel via the Administration Office on 5381 7100.

Annual Privacy Reminder for Our School Community

Our school collects and uses student and parent personal information for standard school functions or where permitted by law, as stated in the Schools’ Privacy Policy and the Schools’ Privacy Collection Notice.

Our Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy, describes how we collect and use photographs, video and recordings of students. The policy also explains when parent consent is required and how it can be provided and withdrawn.

All policies can be located at the Horsham College Website > School Life > Policies.

We ask parents to also review the guidance we provide on how we use Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace for Education safely at the school and what parents can do to further protect their child’s information. If after reviewing the guidance you have any questions or concerns regarding your child using Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace for Education, please contact the school.

For more information about privacy, refer to: Schools’ Privacy Policy — information for parents. This information is also available in ten community.

Finally, a reminder that there is a Public Holiday (Labour Day) on Monday 9th of March, and as such the school will be closed. I wish everyone a safe long weekend.
