Loving-Peace Arts Competition

In Term One, Students in Year 5/6 were visited by representatives from the International Women's Peace Group to share their stories and introduce the International Loving-Peace Arts Competition.
Students have been working hard on their piece, creating artworks showing their interpretation of peace in the world.
The Year 5/6 students chose three pieces to be entered into the competition.
Voted First place by Year 5/6 students
Name Nathan
Title Peace’s Embrace
Artists Statement We all want world peace and that is what I tried to depict in this drawing. In the centre is a dove, that dove is hugging the earth, in this the dove represents peace, love, and joy. The world is being encased in happiness which is shown with the mini love hearts of the countries. The top right corner shows a person giving money to a homeless person, which means charity and giving. The bottom corner shows the world leaders agreeing upon peace, representing connection and world peace.
Voted Second place by Year 5/6 students
Name Mokki
Title The fallen angel
Artist Statement My art piece represents an angel. However, she is a little bit different from the rest of the angels. She has a black heart that was stabbed by a dagger of grief. This is because the dagger represents the wars and the pain that people had felt and that the angel is pieced together by all of us. This connection represents all the wars and suffering that the people felt, but we are still all in one.
Voted Third place by Year 5/6 students
Name Minana
Title of artwork Sewn together
Artist Statement I dream of world peace, a world where war does not exist, where countries reunite together to nurture our home. This is reflected in my artwork which shows the world being sewn together by a dove and a bleeding hand which is holding the world fading into countries. My art work is hope for the future, a future that one day we will reunite together .
We wish these three the best of luck with the competition and can't wait to hear how they go.
