Modern Choir Citizenship Ceremony Performance

– Miss Maria

On Thursday 13 November, Modern Choir provided the entertainment for the final City of Port Phillip Citizenship Ceremony of 2025. Led by Ava W, Clara S-L, Anika D & Ivy G, the choir sang sweetly and with intensity, adding delight to an already joyful event. We were small in number, but big of heart, managing delays and soundtrack losses like professionals!

Many thanks to parents Rachel, Jane, Olivia, Sid and Gail for your support with transport to and from the event.

Upon return, choir members shared the following comments...

When choir went to the Citizenship Ceremony we were delayed and they gave us some snacks. It was fun! We had the best time! There were cup cakes with pistachios and chocolate. The people who were becoming Australian for the first time had little flags. – Malleson VdM, 2D

I had a great time at the ceremony. I had the best time with everyone and Miss Maria. Thank you so much! – Ivy G, 6B

Today was so fun, with a mixture of fruit kebabs, lost saplings and a laptop that doesn’t use USBs! Thank you Miss Maria for using your lunchtimes to make choir possible. – Ruby G, 2C

When we went on a trip to the ceremony we sang three songs. We even had to sing the national anthem with no accompaniment. It was very fun and I’d love to go again! – Ethel, 3C

Well done to all members of choir. It was a pleasure leading you and we all sang beautifully. This may have been our best performance yet, and I’m excited to see where we go as we head to the end of the year. (Also, congratulations to our new Australian citizens!) – Ava W, 6D

I think it was a great way to celebrate the new Australians and be with different people from all different grades and classes at school. – Lucy D, 3D

We went to the Citizenship Ceremony. It was my first ‘during school’ performance. I loved it because of the private cars. Thank you Miss Maria. – Edie L, 3D

We went in private vehicles. We sang two songs - 'Give Us Hope' and 'I Still Call Australia Home'. – Zoe S, 2C

When we sang the national anthem there was no music so we had to sing without music. We were the only people who knew the national anthem by heart. We also sang I Still Call Australia Home and Give Us Hope. – Aazniv A, 3C

On 13th November we went on an excursion to the St Kilda Town Hall and we all rode in private vehicles. We sang I Still Call Australia Home and Give Us Hope. Then we sang the national anthem with no music. It was the best! – Tove D, 3D
