Arts Week

– Miss Emily & Miss Maria

Last week we celebrated The Arts at PMPS.

We had a fabulous time, highlighted by an amazing Art Show that showcased the creativity and talent of our students. The excitement continued throughout the week as students and staff dressed up in fun, imaginative outfits, adding even more colour and energy to our celebrations. Thank you to all the families that visited the Art Show, your support for the Arts is much appreciated.

The lunch time live performance was a hit with Miss Maria inviting Handpan performer (and Creative Art Therapist), Alice Chui to perform and also to encourage music making on our steel tongue drums.

Much creative fun was had by all!

We were delighted and amazed by the quality and diversity of artwork in our annual Art Show. As she does each year, Miss Emily created a zone of peaceful beauty and dextrous artistry… a feast for the eyes! The Art Room glowed with the creations, colours and hues created during Art class and showcased incredibly talented students across all year levels. It was wonderful to see so many families come through and view the annual Art Show.

On Wednesday – Arts Day – classrooms were overtaken by a huge variety of costumed ‘visitors’ which added to the fun and atmosphere. Students looked great in their outfits, and clearly lots of thought was put into them. Much fun and enjoyment ensued, and it was delightful to watch the creativity of costume-inspired play in the playground during break times. We congratulate all students and staff on their effort! The gold coins you so generously offered have been added together, and we’ve made a gratefully received donation of $371.00 to the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Classrooms dedicated time towards The Arts curriculum during Arts Day which saw students doing a range of art, drama, dance, music and other creative activities across the school. I trust that all enjoyed the focus, escape, fun, creativity, exploration, delight and therapy that these activities brought … the Arts mean so many different things to each and every one of us.

Modern Choir Performances

On Thursday, the Modern Choir performed at St Kilda Town Hall as the entertainment for the final City of Port Phillip Citizenship Ceremony of the year … see the report in this newsletter. And then on Saturday at the Fete, they performed again, adding something a little more modern to the repertoire! Both performances were welcomed and greatly appreciated.

And to finish up, students were invited to attend a live Handpan performance in the Music Room on Tuesday 18 November. Thanks, Alice, for presenting your wonderful music with such zen-like calm. Many students enjoyed your soothing and peaceful sounds. It was almost a lunchtime ‘oasis’ experience – restful, evocative, restorative and enjoyable all in one. Although many came and went as the mood took them, some students stayed long enough to make some complementary music with Alice, using Harmonic Whirlies, the Rain Stick and Steel Tongue Drums. It was fun, free-flowing and we really loved it!

A special thank-you to all families, staff and students for joining in our 2025 Arts Week celebrations. We’ve had a wonderfully expressive and creative time … and can’t wait to do it again next year!
