Student Leaders – Junior School Council (JSC) Updates

Our Junior School Council (JSC) serves as a vital platform for student leadership, where student captains lead fortnightly meetings to drive school improvement and foster student agency. Our JSC representatives have worked towards specific development initiatives designed to improve our school.

As we reflect on the implementation of these initiatives and their impact on our community thus far, I am exceptionally pleased to share with you the following:

Service Learning

Our student leaders have been successful in raising money for various causes over the past two terms. Looking forward, our goal is to continue these efforts to support more organisations, with a specific focus on the upcoming "future career" dress-up day and Jeans for Genes supporting our sponsored international child, Charlotte and the Jeans for Genes Australia which are scheduled for Term 3.

Student Voice

We have successfully identified opportunities to enhance student leadership by auditing the use of Student Voice (SV) boxes across the school. To build on this, we plan to refine the implementation of the Student Voice Process by creating standardised templates and guidelines. This initiative aims to maximise the impact of student suggestions and better link them to the official GWPS SV Process for school improvement.

Sustainability

The Sustainability JSC has already demonstrated significant progress, with the Garden Club holding two successful Farmer’s Markets and the school procuring 50 classroom caddies and 1000 worms. Our next objective is to implement a central Compost Bin near the garden behind the Science Shed, fostering a whole-school approach to environmental responsibility through student-led projects.

I look forward to sharing more news as we continue to deepen our Junior School Council action plans.
