On Tuesday the 16th of June, the Grade Two travelled to Port Phillip Eco Centre to investigate our Inquiry topic of “How might we influence the environment?”
The excursion allowed the students to put what they had learnt in the classroom into place. The Year Two students learnt about the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme, and what can and cannot be accepted. We also learnt about the importance of caring for the environment and cleaning up after ourselves.
A favourite amongst all of the students was learning about composting and the life cycle of worms. In this task, students had an opportunity to use magnifying glasses to look at worms on a closer level. Students saw a microscopic egg sac that contained five tiny baby worms that were yet to hatch.
Student Take-aways
Amana and Foram “ I found it interesting that some of the worms were brown and others were yellow.”
Inderpreet “I loved everything, it was so much fun.”
Sajunthan “I loved learning about worms and how they have 10 hearts.”
Noah “I learnt that worms have 10 hearts, I also enjoyed the hands-on learning.”
