Prep - Year 2 Updates

Prep

As we commence Term 3, the Prep students are looking forward to celebrating ‘100 Days of School’ on Monday 27th July. They have been busy making their 100 Day posters and preparing their costumes with their families. On Friday 24th July, the students are excited to welcome their Grandparents and Special People into our classroom to share some special activities.

During this term, using the story of 'The Three Billy Goats', the students will work in pairs to create models of a goat, troll, boat and bridge using different materials. As part of our ‘The Bridge and Beyond’ topic, they will learn to make and test models and compare their results with their predictions. We look forward to sharing our work with you.

Year 1

The Year 1 students have swiftly settled back into class routines and are excited for Term 3. We have picked up where we left off in learning our phonics and our focus for this week is the digraphs /ir/ and /ur/ which both make the /er/ sound.

The students are excited about Grandparents & Special Friends day this Friday and have been working on making something special for their special person.

In Maths, we are focusing on addition and practising writing number sentences using the + and = symbols. The students have enjoyed using magnetic ten frames to support their learning. We are all looking forward to another fun and engaging term ahead.

Year 2

The Year 2 students have had a wonderful start to Term 3. Over the past week, we have been re-establishing routines and revisiting our school values. It was especially lovely to hear the children speak so beautifully and confidently during the Student‑Led Conferences. They shared their learning and goals with pride. Thank you to all families for your ongoing support and encouragement.

The students were very excited to begin our Maths unit on Multiplication and Division. We have been learning that multiplication means ‘groups of’ and division means ‘shared between’. We have started exploring the picture book The Stone Lion, which the students have loved, some even gave it a round of applause. We will be using this text to support our writing over the coming weeks.

As you know, this Friday the Year 2 students, together with Year 5s, will be leading our Grandparents Day Liturgy. They have been practising and are very excited to welcome their grandparents into our school and classroom. We are looking forward to a wonderful term ahead.
