Wellbeing - Attendance

Every school day counts

At St Peter's, we know that every school day provides valuable opportunities for children to learn, grow and connect. While occasional absences due to illness are sometimes unavoidable, regular attendance plays an important role in supporting each child's learning, friendships, confidence and overall wellbeing.

Learning builds over time, with each lesson building on the knowledge and skills taught the day before. When students miss school, they miss important learning experiences, classroom discussions and hands-on activities that are often difficult to recreate. Even with support from teachers, catching up can take time and may affect a child's confidence and engagement in learning.

Being on time matters too!

A positive day starts from the moment students arrive at school. Our consistent morning routines, including Welcome Circle, help children settle into the day, connect with their teacher and classmates, share important information and prepare for learning. Arriving on time allows students to feel calm, included and ready to participate from the very beginning of the day.

Attendance supports friendships and wellbeing.

Being at school every day helps children develop and maintain friendships, participate in shared experiences and build a strong sense of belonging within their classroom community. Students who attend regularly are also more likely to feel confident, prepared and willing to participate in classroom learning.

Every day adds up.

Missing just one day each fortnight adds up to around 20 school days across the year—approximately four weeks of learning. Over time, these missed opportunities can affect not only academic progress, but also social connections, confidence and overall engagement with school.

We understand that children will sometimes need to stay home when they are unwell. Whenever possible, we encourage families to schedule appointments and holidays outside school hours or during school holiday periods to minimise interruptions to learning.

Thank you for partnering with us to support regular attendance and punctuality. By working together, we can ensure every child has the best opportunity to achieve their potential, build meaningful friendships and enjoy a positive, successful school experience.

Every day matters. Every minute counts.
