Something exciting is coming to St Peter's...

Book Week 2026 is just around the corner, and this year's theme is... Symphony of Stories .

Get ready for a week filled with books, imagination, creativity, costumes, storytelling, and plenty of fun! We can't wait to share all the exciting activities we have planned.

 Why do we celebrate Book Week?

Book Week is a special time to celebrate Australian children's literature, inspire a love of reading, and encourage every child to discover the joy, wonder, and adventure that stories can bring. Reading helps children build their imagination, vocabulary, knowledge, empathy, and confidence while creating memories that can last a lifetime.

 How can families celebrate at home?

With the children in Years F-2:

Read together every day—even 10 minutes makes a difference.

Visit your local library and borrow a new book.

Let your child choose the bedtime story.

Talk about books you've enjoyed and recommend your favourites.

Read recipes, signs, menus, maps, or shopping lists together.

Encourage your child to draw, write, or retell their favourite story.

Create a cosy family reading corner and enjoy a book together.

How can you help your child in years 3-6 to develop a love of reading at home?

Make reading a conversation, talk about books.

Reading is not just about finishing a book—it's about building curiosity, expanding knowledge, developing empathy, and enjoying stories. By making reading a positive and regular part of family life, you are helping your child become a confident, capable, and lifelong reader.

Encourage your child to read for at least 20 minutes each day, even if they are already a confident reader.

Talk about what they are reading. 

Ask questions such as:

What happened in the story today?

Who is your favourite character and why?

What do you think will happen next?

What message is the author trying to share?
