The Great Book Swap

We are pleased to announce the return of the OLF Annual Great Book Swap. This event supports the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) and its mission to provide books and educational resources to children living in remote communities across Australia.

The Great Book Swap is a wonderful opportunity for students to celebrate reading, learn about Indigenous languages and cultures, and contribute to a meaningful cause. This year, the ILF aims to raise $150,000, which will allow them to distribute 15,000 new books to remote communities.

We invite your family to participate by having your child/children bring a book from home to swap on Monday 24th August, along with a gold coin donation. Your support will help make a significant difference in the lives of children in remote areas.

We’re getting set for My Mind Check!

Coming soon

Stage 2 & 3

As part of our commitment to student mental health and wellbeing, we are introducing a new check-in tool called My Mind Check

This free tool has been developed by youth mental health experts at Macquarie University (Sydney) and funded by the Australian Government Department of Education. By responding to age-appropriate questions, students can share how they are feeling about their mental health and wellbeing. There are no right or wrong answers – My Mind Check simply helps schools to understand a student’s mental health and wellbeing at a point in time.

We’re pleased to gain insights into how our students are managing, while also integrating this missing piece into our school’s wellbeing information ecosystem. My Mind Check will help us better understand each student and the needs of our school community, while also connecting us to a broad range of mental health and wellbeing resources, along with practical tools and templates to share information with caregivers and students.

Check-ins are voluntary and take 30 minutes in total during school hours. They can be repeated every month (or less frequently) – we decide the timing and scheduling.  My Mind Check technology has stringent privacy and security built in and is supported by an independent security evaluation. For more on this, go to Security and Privacy. We’ll soon send information to students and caregivers and collect consent for students to take part.

A voice for student mental health and wellbeing

The mental health and wellbeing of our students is vitally important to us. That’s why we’re implementing My Mind Check, to give your child a voice and help us better understand them.

My Mind Check was developed by youth mental health experts at Macquarie University (Sydney) with input from educators and students across Australia. Funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, My Mind Check meets strict Commonwealth privacy and security standards, which you can learn about by visiting Security and Privacy.

Students are invited to participate in a 30-minute check-in session here at school, under the supervision of a staff member. They will use a computer or tablet to respond to age-appropriate questions about how they’re feeling and can skip any questions they don’t want to answer.

My Mind Check isn’t a clinical assessment of mental health but instead offers insights to help us better understand the wellbeing of each student and our collective school community. We’ll follow up if your child reports any areas of need and invite you to explore helpful information and resources at mymindcheck.org.au any time.

Stay tuned! We’ll ask for your consent shortly.
