Swimming lessons

Level 3 & 5 students have been heading over to Caulfield for their annual swimming lessons. Swimming skills and water safety is an important part of the PE & Health curriculum and it is great that we have access to the facilities next door.

Later in the term, our Level 6 students will have a Surfing day building on their water safety knowledge in the ocean setting.

Level 6 SEPEP

This term in PE, we’re doing a program called SEPEP, which stands for Sport Education in Physical Education Program. It’s a different and fun way of learning where instead of just doing drills or playing games led by the teacher, we run our own sports competition

Our class has been split into 4 teams, and each team plays against the others across the term. But SEPEP isn’t just about playing the sport. Everyone in the class has a specific role to help run the season. Some students are coaches, who lead training and help their team improve. Others are referees, managers, fitness trainers, or part of the media and stats team who keep score and write match reports.

SEPEP is a great way to learn not only how to play the sport better, but also to build important skills like leadership, teamwork, communication, and responsibility. Everyone has a part to play, and the whole class works together to make the season a success.

SEPEP helps students in many ways, both on and off the field. It teaches us how to work as a team, make decisions, and take on leadership roles. Because everyone has a job like coach, umpire, manager, or media officer we all learn to take responsibility and do our part. It also helps us improve our communication skills, since we need to plan, solve problems, and support each other. By running the games ourselves, we understand how real sports competitions work and what goes into organising them. SEPEP gives everyone a chance to be involved, not just the most athletic students, so it helps build confidence, fairness, and respect for others.

Facilities Upgrades

If you’ve been to the oval you should have noticed a new addition and some upgrades. The Ga Ga Pit has been a winner and the new goal post pads were joined by new soccer nets. Thanks to the Parents Committee for their assistance with these upgrades and look out for an upgrade to the gym over the coming weeks.

Divisional Athletics

Last Wednesday 8 October, 39 students competed in the Monash-Waverley Division Athletics Competition. We had a large number of individual performers and 4 relay teams competing on the day. All students did an amazing job coming up against some very talented students from other schools.

Mixed Future Stars Regional Hooptime

On Wednesday the 15 of October, 9 Level 6 Six boys travelled up to the State Basketball Centre in Wantirna to compete in the Mixed Future Stars Regional Hooptime.

Arriving there early at 9am was no problem for us as we kicked on our shoes and began the warm up. On the court you could feel the excitement and nerves running through the boys' heads.

The first game was as fast as lighting. The ball was going from one end to another, which caused a really tight tussle. With a couple minutes to go we took the lead by a narrow 2 points. It just wasn’t meant to be as we ended up 2 points short. Despite that, the energy was high and we regrouped. Game 2 was a real challenge. From the get go, we felt real pressure coming from the other team.

Unfortunately for us they were just too good, making layups left, right and centre.

From that game we thought we showed real potential of what we could be and what we needed to improve on.

At Jells Park we strive for never giving up, and that's what we did. 0 and 2, may not seem ideal, but really we were just playing some quality basketball.

With enthusiasm we bounced high as we soared for the sky. Now we were feeling it. Finally, you could really see the smiles on our faces. As the buzzer sounded, relief flowed throughout the group. We had won.

The last two games were extremely tough and bitter. The first match we were playing second place, which we kept in close eye of for most of the game, but sadly they broke the deadlock to slam in some easy goals. The last match had us on our feet. Immediately we were in second gear, which really showed in the game. There was a bitter feeling as we went down by a close margin of seven points.

We would like to thank Ms Woon for training us and coaching the team on such a wonderful day. Her effort to make us better was evident which really helped the boys.

To our team - Keep pushing, Keep Fighting, and continue to show the Jells Park Spirit.
