Darcy Bourke (Class of 2023)

Congratulations to Darcy Bourke for having his artwork displayed at the Top Arts 2024 exhibition at the NGV. This annual exhibition provides a platform for the next generation of artists across the state to showcase their talent, passion and ingenuity. Top Arts 2024 features the most exceptional work from students who completed the new VCE study designs of Art Making and Exhibiting and Art Creative Practice in 2023. Well done, Darcy!

Congratulations to the Girton students who competed at the National Age Swimming Championships on the Gold Coast from 9 to 13 April, including Azia Fong-Sutton (8 Aherne), Wil Anderson (10 Jenkin), Henry Allan (10 Jones) and Fraser Allan (10 Frew).

There were a few nervous moments for Azia, competing in her first National Age Swimming Championships with swimmers from all over Australia and some from overseas. However, she rose to the challenge, achieving PBs in all her events and competing in some of the finals.

50m Backstroke: 14th overall (PB of 1.25 secs)

100m Backstroke: 24th overall (PB of 1.49 secs)

100m Freestyle: 20th overall (PB of 0.61 sec)

Azia also competed in three club relays. Congratulations on this fantastic effort, Azia!

Henry was offered a position in the Junior Oceania Dolphin Team to compete for Australia in the Oceania Championships (held in April on Gold Coast), but unfortunately wasn't able to go due to a virus.

Fraser Allan qualified for five individual events and two relays. He competed in the U15 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke, 200m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly. Fraser also swam on two relay teams for his club MSC. He swam the backstroke leg of the 4 x 100m medley relay and the butterfly leg in the 4 x 50m medley relay.

Fraser performed well against the best swimmers from around Australia and visitors from overseas. He is now ranked top 20 in Australia for backstroke and his relay team finished 7th. Congratulations, Fraser, on the incredible achievement!
