Foundation Day Service
With our 2024 Foundation Day service fast approaching, I wanted to take this opportunity to share some important information about the proceedings, which will take place at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Friday 3 May from 6pm to 7pm.
Student attendance
This is a compulsory event for all students in Years 3 to 12. Students with exceptional circumstances can request permission to be absent; please apply in writing to Ms Dawn Davis (Head of Senior School) for Senior School students, and Mr Donald Thompson (Head of Junior School) for Junior School students.
Student uniform
Students must be immaculately presented in their formal uniform suite, including blazers for those in Years 6 to 12. All Junior School students are required to wear their burgundy jumper.
After-school supervision
Girton will be offering after-school supervision for any Senior School students who wish to remain on campus until the Foundation Day service begins. Students who would like to attend should report to the Naunton Family Building Lecture Theatre from 3.30pm, where a movie will be screened with staff supervision. The movie will conclude at approximately 5pm, after which time the students will be escorted to the Sacred Heart Cathedral. There is no need to register students in advance.
Student arrival procedures
Senior School students who are performing in musical ensembles are required to arrive at the Cathedral by 5.20pm. All other students should arrive by 5.30pm so they can process to their designated seating area at 5.45pm.
Senior School students in Aherne, Jenkin and Frew will meet their Head of House on the left-hand side of the Cathedral (MacKenzie Street side) and Senior School students in Jones, Millward and Riley will meet their Head of House on the right-hand side of the Cathedral (High Street side).
Junior School students from Years 3 to 6 will be advised of their drop-off point following their choir rehearsal on the day of the service.
Student departure procedures
The service will conclude at 7pm, and we ask that parents and carers arrange to collect students promptly at this time. Please be aware that no parking is permitted on Cathedral grounds.
Senior School students may depart the Cathedral to meet their parents. As it will be busy outside the Cathedral at this time, we ask that you remind your children to take care when crossing the road. Students have been instructed to use the traffic lights located at either Vine Street or Short Street when crossing High Street.
Junior School students should be collected from inside the Cathedral; please check in with a staff member before taking your child home.
Live-streaming
The Cathedral enforces seating restrictions to ensure the safety of its congregations. As a result, we are only able to offer a limited number of tickets, which have now sold out. The service will be live-streamed on the evening here.
We look forward to welcoming students, parents and carers to this important school event, where we gather to show our gratitude for our school founders and those who have built on their legacy.
