ICT / Library Updates

Hello from the ICT / Library Team 👋🏼
Library Books & School Computers
A reminder to all students to please return all library books and school computers (from lockers) before the end of term.
Your help in getting everything back on time is greatly appreciated!
BYOD Devices Information
As we near 2026, DE mandates that all students MUST have parent / guardian permission before accessing school ICT resources. This is an annual agreement.
In the coming weeks, LESC will be offering digital signing of the BYOD Devices Agreement, and the Acceptable Use Agreement forms via the Compass Parent Portal https://lakessc-vic.compass.education/Organise/CourseConf/. (PDF versions are also available upon request)
More information and instructions coming soon and will be posted on Compass.
You and your student need to digitally sign each agreement and once completed, students will receive their 2026 computer accounts and network access at the start of the year.
Please contact 8720-support@schools.vic.edu.au if you have any questions.
Social Media Changes are Coming
From 10 December 2025, certain social media platforms won’t be allowed to let Australians under 16 create or keep an account.
What you need to know:
- From 10 December 2025, Facebook, Instagram, Kick, Reddit, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, Twitch, X and YouTube will be required to take reasonable steps to prevent Australians under 16 from having accounts on their platforms. See the latest list.
- Under-16s will still be able to see publicly available social media content that doesn’t require logging into an account.
- Most standalone gaming and messaging apps, as well as many services that support health and education, will not be affected by the new law.
There are no penalties for under-16s who access an account on an age-restricted social media platform, or for their parents or carers. This is about making the platforms take greater responsibility for the safety of children – they face penalties of up to $49.5 million if they don’t take reasonable steps to implement the changes.
